Indian Head Park honors corporal for robbery investigation; swears in new officer
Trustees of the Village of Indian Head Park recognized Corporal John Hussain on Jan. 9 for investigative work that led the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office to approve charges in a robbery and shooting that occurred Aug. 28, 2024, and the board presided over the swearing-in of Officer Randy Bishop.

Chief Walsh said investigators tied the case to an online meeting arranged through Facebook Marketplace. According to the chief, two suspects met a victim near Wolf Road and Joliet Road; the suspects displayed handguns, demanded jewelry and shot the victim in the upper right leg. La Grange Park police stopped and detained the suspects, recovered a firearm and provided evidence that Indian Head Park detectives used to identify one suspect. After a lineup and forensic review, the Cook County State’s Attorney approved charges against Emmanuel Cuerios Marquez for armed robbery and aggravated battery with a firearm. Chief Walsh said both offenses were filed as Class X felonies and noted the sentencing range described in the case file.

Chief Walsh publicly credited Corporal Hussain’s work and the assistance from La Grange Park Police Department during the investigation. "It was an excellent job, John. Really, really superb work," Chief Walsh said while presenting a word-of-merit award to Hussain.

Officer Randy Bishop was sworn in at the meeting and said he was grateful for the community’s support. "It is a great privilege and honor to be working here at Indian Head Park," Bishop said after taking the oath. The chief reported Bishop graduated from the police academy Dec. 12 and is assigned to the field training program on the midnight shift.

The recognition did not include a board vote; it was presented during new business. The police chief said detectives recovered ballistics and other evidence that supported the state's attorney's decision to file charges and thanked partner agencies for their assistance.

No additional formal action was taken on the case at the board meeting.
