Council establishes ad hoc committee to review skating rink and golf course; invites state representative

The Peabody City Council on Jan. 9 moved to convene an ad hoc committee on the skating rink and the municipal golf course and scheduled an initial meeting and tour at the skating-rink site.
Councilor Manning Martin said the committee should visit the rink before budget season to assess operational and capital needs. He also asked that Representative Tom Walsh be invited; Manning Martin said Walsh is sponsoring legislation concerning Department of Conservation and Recreation facilities and Title IX compliance for locker-room accommodations.
Councilors agreed to the referral and to hold the first ad hoc meeting at the rink so committee members can tour the facility and better understand budget and compliance issues ahead of the budget cycle. No binding decisions or budget allocations were made at the meeting; the item was a referral for fact-finding and planning.
Next step: the clerk will coordinate dates for the ad hoc committee meeting, arrange the tour with rink management and invite Representative Walsh to participate.
