The City of West Palm Beach announced on its City Center podcast that it will prohibit vehicular traffic around the downtown waterfront for the Green Market beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, and that those closures will occur each Saturday the market operates from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The announcement, read by Jerry Marcello, host of the City Center podcast produced by the City of West Palm Beach Communications Department, named specific downtown streets affected: North and South Flagler Drive between Banyan Boulevard and Datura Street; South Dixie Highway (U.S. 1) from Banyan Boulevard to Datura Street; North and South Olive Avenue from Banyan Boulevard to Datura Street; and North and South Narcissus Avenue from Banyan Boulevard to Datura Street. The city said the measures are intended to increase public safety and security at the Green Market and the adjacent Antique and Flea Market.
City officials also said the street closures will not affect off-street parking across downtown and that the Banyan Boulevard Garage and the City Center Garage will continue to offer free parking during Green Market and Antique & Flea Market hours. The city said only the Banyan Boulevard entrances to those two garages will be open and that vehicle access from South Dixie Highway into the Banyan Boulevard garage will be closed. The Clematis Street Garage, just west of Quadrille Boulevard, is not affected by the change.
The podcast also listed additional short-term closures tied to regularly scheduled events downtown: Clematis by Night on Thursday, Jan. 16, will close North and South Clematis streets between Narcissus Avenue and Flagler Drive, Lantana Avenue between Banyan Boulevard and North Clematis Street, and Narcissus between Drama Works Alley and North Clematis Street from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. The city announced a CityPlace/Rosemary Square closure on Friday–Sunday, Jan. 10–12 and again Friday–Sunday, Jan. 17–19 affecting Rosemary Avenue between Okeechobee Boulevard and Hibiscus Street. For Supercar Sunday on Jan. 12, North and South Clematis Streets between Narcissus Avenue and Flagler Drive and Flagler Drive between Banyan Boulevard and Lakeview Avenue will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Boaters were given operating hours for city docks and ramps: Curry Park boat docks and ramps at 24100 North Flagler Drive and the ramps at Lake Mangonia Park, 2957 North Australian Avenue, are open daily from sunrise to sunset; Clematis Street docks along South Clematis Street and South Flagler Drive and the Fern Street dock at Fern Street and South Flagler Drive are open daily from 5 a.m. until midnight. The city said no overnight dockage is allowed for boats, dinghies, or kayaks.
