The Warren Co. R-III Board of Education voted to approve an amended Comprehensive School Improvement Plan after trustees discussed committee work, measurement targets and several clarifying action steps.
Board members and staff told the board the CSIP was developed by a 36-person committee that reviewed data, set goals and recommended action steps. The committee’s work produced goals for student achievement, staff retention, school culture and facility planning; the board debated minor edits before approving the plan.
Superintendent: "Just, this is our couple of reports here. We got the CSIP. Just an update on this. This is our final, update on this CSIP," said the superintendent, summarizing the committee process and the district’s intent to adopt a new CSIP for the next cycle.
The board discussed targets for the A+ program, algebra proficiency and timelines. Board member Carolyn Sprague noted the district previously reached A+ participation rates near 24–25% in two of the prior three years and suggested aiming higher than the committee’s baseline. Sprague said, "Since 2 out of the 3 years of this goal, last CSIP cycle, it was achieved. I would aim for it to at least be, you know, what we have shown to be able to achieve or higher." The superintendent and other trustees said the board may retain the committee’s recommended target in deference to the committee’s work while retaining authority to raise targets in future updates.
Trustees and staff also agreed to add clearer action steps requiring student input on school culture and climate. A board member asked to "see what the students think and what their thoughts are as well," and staff said surveys (already in use at the secondary level) will be added explicitly as actions for relevant goals and evaluated quarterly.
Academic supports were emphasized for algebra I; board members noted algebra proficiency and required tutoring hours are central to students’ ability to attain A+ status. The CSIP’s math-related action steps were clarified to emphasize algebra vocabulary and expanded tutoring opportunities.
Other plan details discussed included staff retention (current reported rate ~85% vs. a 90% target), discipline referrals (goals not met in the past cycle), early childhood facility planning (on the path but not yet completed) and fleet replacements (the bus fleet updated to 2016 model years was noted). Staff explained some data sources used and said new tracking tools (transition from a previous Tableau setup) are being implemented to monitor progress.
A motion was made and seconded to approve the CSIP as amended; the board approved the plan by voice vote.
The board directed staff to finalize the amended CSIP text and to publish the polished plan on the district website once edits are complete.
