Armstrong backs CTE, education savings accounts and $50 million in challenge grants for higher education

Gov. Kelly Armstrong said the state's 21st-century learning and career-technical education (CTE) programs are central to workforce development and proposed several education policy and funding priorities.
Armstrong thanked prior investments in CTE, called for continuing support for career and technical education centers, and proposed education savings accounts that would set aside funding for each student to use for public, private, or homeschool services. He also endorsed allowing the creation of public charter schools accountable to performance standards. For higher education, the governor proposed increasing challenge-grant funding to $50 million, which he said would leverage approximately $150 million in total investment over two years.
