Valdez also described lockdown procedures: if necessary, staff will barricade the room with tables and may use a window exit only if required.
Valdez told the committee that building first-aid kits and fire extinguishers are available and that, in an emergency, members should call 911.
Representative Paul Fielder asked about practical issues, noting that the meeting room doors open outward and suggesting committees consider keeping blinds down to limit outside visibility. Valdez and members also discussed not leaving the building to retrieve distant coats during an evacuation and the importance of following directions to the rally point.
Valdez closed by urging members to report anything that appears unsafe and by offering to assist the committee during the session.
