The Plainfield Community School Corp. board accepted the district's financial report for the month ended Dec. 31, 2024, approved recommended fund transfers and cleared claims 67848 through 68100 at its Jan. 9 meeting.
Mister Sierdovich, who presented the financial summary, told the board that the district was 100% of the way through the budget year and reported specific fund usage: the education fund was spent at 90.1%, the debt service fund at 99.5% and the operations fund at 85%. He said the district transferred $511,635 from the education operations fund, had a cash balance of $33,556,409 at the end of the calendar year and recorded interest income of $101,446 for the month.
Sierdovich also highlighted notable payments and transfers: semiannual debt-service payments (described in the packet as about $9,000,000 across June and December), a $49,000 first installment for workers' compensation insurance, approximately $611,364 to McAllister (the district's bus vendor), a transfer of about $1,400,000 described as movement of the curriculum materials fund into the education fund (driven by a state requirement and boosted by a roughly $900,000 payment the district received Dec. 27), and a roughly $94,000 payment to Train for a chiller replacement at the transportation center (the project about 90% complete). He also noted fence repairs after an October windstorm.
The board approved the financial report and the listed claims by voice vote after a motion and second. The transcript records a voice vote with members answering "Aye"; no roll-call tallies were recorded.
Why it matters: The transfer of the curriculum materials fund into the education fund reflects a state accounting change and resulted in a large, one-time movement of cash into the education fund. The semiannual debt payment and other large disbursements affect cash flow and future budgeting.
The board approved consent items earlier in the meeting that included records of the Dec. 12 executive session and regular meeting, donations, Plainfield High School's use of ECA funds for an ice machine, authorization of electronic signatures and permission to cancel outstanding checks. Those consent items were approved by voice vote.
Claims 67848 through 68100 were presented and approved for payment by voice vote.
