Edgewood renovation advances; phase 2 bid packages presented to committee

Staff summarized bids for floor finishes (approx. $1.8 million), sprinkler systems (approx. $657,000), a general-construction (GC) package, ceiling/drywall (approx. $2,025,000), electrical/fire alarm (approx. $984,000) and others. The team reported most trades received three bids; the GC package had two bidders. Administrators recommended starting second-shift work (4 p.m. to midnight) in late January to late May and continuing through summer, noting the potential need to extend second shift into August to finish interior work while school is in session.
Committee members asked about lead-time risks for items such as auditorium seating and windows and the potential for discovering hidden asbestos during demolition. Staff said allowances were included in bid packages for latent conditions; if asbestos or other undisclosed conditions are found, the district may require supplemental approvals for remediation costs.
