Waukegan CUSD 60 schedules parent university, report card mailings and special-education sessions

Waukegan Public Schools (Waukegan Community Unit School District 60) announced multiple parent-facing events and information sessions as the district returns from winter break.

Grades 6-12 report cards will be mailed home beginning the week of Jan. 20, and elementary report cards will be sent home with students the same week, the district said. Parents with questions about report cards were directed to contact their child’s school.

The district will host a parent university on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Glen Flora Elementary School. "During the event, parents will learn how to access important academic information through the campus parent portal, including schedules, attendance, grades, fees, and registrations," said Nico Salazarakis, director of communications. Translation services will be available, and the district said more information is available on its website.

Waukegan CUSD 60’s Diverse Learning department will begin a series of online information presentations this weekend aimed at families of students with disabilities. The first session, led by the Family Resource Center on Disabilities, is scheduled for Jan. 11 and will cover the six principles of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The district said all families served by the Diverse Learning department are invited and that links to join the presentations are posted on the district website.

Salazarakis presented these items as part of the district’s weekly communications update. The district encouraged parents to consult individual school staff for questions about report cards, translations, or special-education resources.
