At the start of the meeting the superintendent gave an update on weather, the school calendar and near‑term events, saying the district used three scheduled snow days and explaining the makeup plan.
The superintendent told the board the district had used its three built‑in snow days (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) and that the district schedules two potential makeup days: Presidents' Day (Feb. 17) and the Monday after spring break (April 21). If additional snow days occur after those two, she said, those days would be added to the end of the school year. She stated the school year is currently slated to end on June 11.
The superintendent noted the district has not used three built‑in snow days since 2017 and thanked operations, maintenance and outside contractors for clearing school parking lots and bus loops. "We don't have internal snow clearing crews," she said, explaining the district relies on local contractors who also service state and county roads.
She also briefed the board on a schedule of upcoming items: weekly budget work sessions in January (including a daytime work session for detailed departmental budget questions), a public hearing on the proposed budget at the Jan. 22 board meeting, and a final budget meeting on Jan. 29. The superintendent said the governor's budget is expected Jan. 15 and could change state funding projections.
Community events mentioned included a Tri County Chorus concert at Northern High School (Sunday, 2–3:30 p.m.) and a Tech Expo scheduled for Jan. 23 with a snow date of Jan. 30. The superintendent closed by thanking families for patience during weather closures and encouraging attendees to review upcoming schedules.
No board action was taken on the weather update; it was provided as informational context for scheduling and budgeting.
