Chair Van Dine outlined highlights to support the proclamation: Schneiderwin managed the Will County Farm Bureau for 30 years, hosted an annual agriculture expo that drew more than 1,000 students and helped establish recycling and waste-collection programs and pipeline projects to support farmers. "Mark has been instrumental and continued to foster strong advocates of agriculture in his time," Van Dine said.
The committee discussed whether the board’s rules on proclamations should be tightened to avoid politically contentious declarations in the future; several members expressed concern about reopening a broad proclamation practice but also noted the county’s current rule allows proclamations by unanimous Executive Committee consent. Member Frankie Pretzel said the board had limited proclamations previously due to concerns about politicization but indicated support for honoring long-serving community figures if the process remains restricted. After discussion, the Executive Committee voted unanimously to approve the proclamation for Schneiderwin.
What’s next: The proclamation will be presented at the full County Board meeting this month as an item being transmitted by unanimous consent of the Executive Committee.
