The county’s chief of staff explained staff and public-tracking challenges when items pulled from a consolidated consent agenda must be moved back to committee: "You kind of balance that against the risk of losing track of an item that's pulled out from a consent agenda way up here," the staff member said.
Why it matters: supporters said grouping consent items by referring committee will make it easier for board members and the public to find an item if it is pulled for discussion; opponents warned the change could dilute the efficiency gains of a single consent agenda and questioned the time savings.
The Executive Committee’s vote passed (roll call); the chair noted the full County Board will operate under the existing rule at the next board meeting and, if the full board approves the amendment, the new consent-agenda format will take effect at a subsequent meeting.
