Glynn County Schools updates on Brunswick High projects; fieldhouse GMP presented at $5.22 million

Mister Blackaby reported installation of the Brunswick High driveway awning was underway and expected to be operational by mid‑to‑late next week, weather permitting. He said parking‑lot work is progressing and crews were removing old asphalt in preparation for new paving.
Mister Myers presented a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $5,222,433 for the remaining construction of the Brunswick High Fieldhouse addition, a local capital outlay project. The presenter said the GMP includes total construction and interior items such as flooring and turf; it also reflects one alternate (a PVC membrane over lightweight insulating concrete) included as an add of $136,000 intended to improve long‑term roof performance. The contract includes a contingency that presenters described on the record as $150,000; the presenters said they may be able to reduce flooring costs after soliciting additional pricing to meet specifications.
Also at Brunswick High, the School Nutrition Department will purchase two combi ovens. Director of School Nutrition Ms. Daniel said the district was awarded a $30,000 Department of Education grant that requires the district to complete the purchase and then be reimbursed; the district would cover the remaining $11,250 from the School Nutrition Fund.
At Rizzley Annex, staff recommended resurfacing the existing track with an approximately 1.5‑inch asphalt overlay and removing a dilapidated restroom building near the track. The low/sole qualified bid for that work was $61,950, the presenter said.
Board members asked questions about project closeouts, remaining items that delay final Esplash project accounting and timing for completion of the performing arts facility, which was identified as the last major outstanding item. No formal contract approvals or final votes on the GMP, ovens purchase or track resurfacing were recorded in the workshop transcript; the items were presented for board review and forthcoming administrative action.
