The Idaho Senate on Jan. 8, 2025 read into the record six gubernatorial appointment notices from Gov. Brad Little and referred each appointment to the legislature's appropriate standing committee, the Senate reported. Roll call at the start of the session showed 34 senators present and one absent.

The messages, signed by Gov. Brad Little, notified the Senate of the following appointments and reappointments and gave the committees to which each would be referred for confirmation consideration: Wallace Hedrick of Eagle was appointed to the Public Charter School Commission for a term commencing Oct. 27, 2023, and expiring May 12, 2027 (referred to the Education Committee); Steve Landon of Chubbock was reappointed to the Idaho State Insurance Fund for a term commencing May 1, 2024, and expiring May 1, 2028 (referred to the Commerce and Human Resources Committee); Sherry Lynn Baer of Firth was reappointed to the Public Charter School Commission for a term commencing May 12, 2024, and expiring May 12, 2028 (referred to the Education Committee); Lee Heinrich of Cascade was reappointed to the Board of Tax Appeals for a term commencing June 30, 2024, and expiring June 30, 2027 (referred to the Local Government and Taxation Committee); Linda Mitchell of Sagal was reappointed to the Lake Pend Oreille Basin Commission for a term commencing July 24, 2024, and expiring July 24, 2027 (referred to the Resources and Environment Committee); and David Turnbull of Eagle was appointed to the State Board of Education for a term commencing Oct. 23, 2024, and expiring July 1, 2029 (referred to the Education Committee). The notice stated the appointments are subject to confirmation by the Senate.

On a separate procedural matter, the Judiciary and Rules Committee reported that the Senate journal recording the proceedings of Jan. 7, 2025, "was read and approved as corrected." The journal was ordered filed in the secretary's office.

Senators also used the miscellaneous business period for brief announcements: Sen. Tyler Guthrie said the Boise Metro Chamber luncheon had buses scheduled to depart at about 11:30 a.m., and Sen. Sarah Van Orden reminded colleagues that the Health and Welfare Committee would meet at 3 p.m. that afternoon.

With routine business complete, a senator moved that the Senate adjourn until 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025; another senator seconded the motion, and the presiding officer announced the result by voice vote, saying, "The ayes have it." The Senate recessed to reconvene at the stated time.
