The Fayette County Commission voted to approve a draft letter that will allow Luna Music (operating from leased space in the HEICO area) to operate special events under a limited, temporary authorization while it pursues permanent fire-suppression upgrades and building approvals.
Owners Caroline Cowdrey and Eric Worchel presented the business plan and safety measures they said they will implement while the building is brought up to code: contracting an architect and fire‑safety engineer, hiring two paid fire-watch safety attendants for events until an electronic suppression system is installed, installing multiple portable fire extinguishers and completing staff fire-safety training. The owners said they would limit special events to a capacity of no more than 49 people under interim provisions recommended by the fire marshal; permanent occupancy will be determined after final plans and the sprinkler system are reviewed.
County legal staff consulted with the state ABC during an executive session; commissioners said ABC staff confirmed a special-events accommodation is administratively permissible. The commission approved sending a letter to the ABC and other relevant agencies with the schedule of proposed special-events dates, conditioned on receiving a written note from the fire marshal confirming the interim capacity and confirmation of other requested documentation.
Commissioners instructed county staff to receive the marshal's written confirmation, add any requested language to the draft letter, and then issue the letter. The vote followed counsel's review in executive session and a staff recommendation to permit temporary special-event operations provided the marshal's documentation is received and capacity limits are obeyed.
