Aaron Barrow announced Wednesday he will step down from his seat on the David Douglas School Board, saying he plans to spend more time with family and pursue personal projects.
Barrow told the board he had served six years and that the increasing pace and complexity of the work made this the right time to step back. "I'm gonna be stepping down from my board seat," he said, adding that he would remain involved in the community and help at school events.
Board members responded with tributes and gratitude for Barrow's service, citing his curiosity, advocacy and steady presence on issues including bus schedules, policy and community engagement. The board presented Barrow with a plaque recognizing six years of service.
Administrators noted that, because the regular election cycle is approaching, the board will wait until the election period to fill the seat; in the interim the board said it will reassign liaison schools and committee duties as needed and will discuss options at an upcoming workshop.
Barrow told colleagues he would remain available for volunteer support and school events even after leaving the board.
