Blair County approves SERVPRO contract to clean prison kitchen ducts

Blair County Commissioners on Jan. 9 approved an agreement with Cambria Restoration Services, doing business as SERVPRO, to perform duct and hood-range cleaning in the Blair County Prison kitchen, county staff said.

County officials said the work is being done under the county's purchase threshold and will be performed at no change to existing staffing. The county recorded the purchase as set forth in county-approved purchase orders.

Prison staff told the commissioners the cleaning was necessary after staff found previous work had not adequately cleaned the ductwork and that the work is needed to satisfy an upcoming state fire inspection. "We had some issues in the kitchen office that was related to the ductwork that had not been cleaned properly by the last company that came in to do it," a prison representative said during the meeting.

Commissioners moved to approve the agreement and adopted the measure by voice vote; no recorded opposition was noted.

The contract is described in the county minutes as a purchase under the bidding threshold; the county did not provide a contract amount at the meeting.
