Mason, an Eagle Scout candidate, presented a proposal to add benches and signage along the SCSA Trail near the soccer fields. He said the project includes benches similar to those at Kephart Park, trail rules signage (for example: no dogs, no motorized vehicles), a map of bench and sign locations and a budget estimate of about $5,000.
Mason said he had raised about $500 and planned additional fundraising and sponsor outreach; he asked the parks board whether he could proceed with the project. Board members voiced support and told him to continue fundraising and to return with specification details for benches and signage so staff can ensure materials meet town quality and sign guidelines. Chris offered to assist with routing details so Mason would not need to miss school for coordination.
The board did not authorize funding at the Jan. 10 meeting; members asked for finalized specifications, confirmation of soccer-academy support and details on any town-provided funds before any financial commitment.
