Cottage Grove swears in mayor and three council members

Myron Bailey was sworn in as mayor of Cottage Grove at the City Council meeting on Jan. 8, 2025, joined by three council members taking their oaths of office.
The swearing-in ceremony, conducted in the meeting room with County Commissioner Carla Bingham participating, included oaths by Monique Garza, Justin Olsen and David Clawson. "I, Myron Bailey," Bailey intoned as part of the oath-administration process, followed by the formal pledge to "support the Constitution of the United States" and the Constitution of the State of Minnesota.
The administrations of the oaths completed the formal opening of the meeting and were followed by family photos and brief informal remarks. County Commissioner Carla Bingham helped start the oath process, and the clerk conducted roll call before the ceremony.
The oath language used at the meeting included the standard pledge to support both the federal and state constitutions and to "faithfully execute and discharge the duties" of each office "according to the law and to the best of [their] judgment and ability." No policy actions were taken during the ceremony.
Following the oaths, the mayor and council members posed for group photographs and the meeting proceeded to the regular agenda.
