The Council Rock School District finance committee recommended purchasing replacement automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) for the district and adding two new units — one for the Chancellor Center and one for the Sale House.
Anthony Rapp, director of business administration, told the committee that 26 AEDs are currently installed across district facilities and many are nearing the end of their recommended useful lives. The committee received three quotes; the lowest was from Coro Medical at $47,871.76. The suggested procurement includes a $5,200 trade-in allowance for qualifying existing units.
Rapp said the district is required to have an AED within three minutes of all large-group areas and identified the Chancellor Center and Sale House as locations where an additional stand-alone unit would increase coverage. He recommended procuring replacement units now and moving toward a phased replacement plan in future years so the district does not have to replace all AEDs at once.
Board members asked whether the purchase was budgeted. Rapp said the expense was not budgeted in the operating budget and that the district would use the budgetary reserve fund for the purchase. The committee asked that the administration provide any additional procurement details and ensure the phased replacement approach is documented for future budgeting.
The committee recommended proceeding with the low quote from Coro Medical and to fund the purchase from the budgetary reserve, subject to the district's procurement rules and necessary approvals.
