Roundhouse renovation stalled by elevator design error; museum board and roundhouse begin talks on Norwalk car display

Commissioner Boyd reported on a roundhouse board meeting where a long-delayed elevator installation was stalled by an engineering/design error, and the general contractor was struggling to find someone to fix the design issue.
"That project was supposed to be done a long time ago," Commissioner Boyd said, adding the contractor was having trouble getting timely responses from Alpha (the engineering firm) after a mid-project leadership change. The board said the contractor "promises he'll see it through," but detailed work remained to complete upstairs portions of the renovation.
Board members also discussed a proposal to make the roundhouse a temporary or long-term home for the Norwalk car and for the car wash station at the rear of the building. The roundhouse and museum board expressed early support for continuing discussions, but raised operational questions including who would open and close the site, whether employees would be required, workers' compensation and insurance coverage.
The board adopted the 2025 farmer’s market contract and approved a new night market for the coming year, the commissioner said. No formal county action was recorded on the elevator or Norwalk car discussion during the meeting; officials said further conversations and agreements will be required before either project advances.
