Mayor (name not provided) announced that the City Council unanimously elected George Tyros as its new president, succeeding Elizabeth Kosinskas, who served as council president for five years.
The mayor thanked former President Kosinskas for her service and said he and Kosinskas communicated frequently during the pandemic and recovery period. “Her passion for moving Gardner forward is something that I strive to have each and every day,” the mayor said.
The mayor also announced that the School Committee elected Rachel Cormier as its vice chair. He noted that state law and the city charter make the mayor the chair of the school committee while the vice chair assigns subcommittees and oversees meeting agendas. He also thanked Jennifer Zlotnik Palaven for six years of service as the previous vice chair and noted her role during pandemic-era transitions and new-school work.
