Sawyer County IT outlines last year’s projects and readies online permit payments

The Sawyer County Information Technology Department told the Administrative Committee it focused last year on security and audiovisual upgrades and expects to roll out online permit payments in the coming weeks.
"We spent tons of time on card pass readers for the courthouse, the sheriff's department, and also a lot of cameras needed to be replaced and installed," said Mr. Kolsinger of the IT Department, describing major 2024 work.
Kolsinger said staff upgraded boardroom and courtroom AV systems, installed panic buttons in some locations and are adding a permit-tracking module for tourist rooming houses and other permits. He said the county will begin online permit payments with the applicant billed for the transaction fee. "That will be the person buying the permit," he said, explaining the payment model.
Officials expect the forms automation and payment configuration to be ready in early spring for initial departments and earlier rollout for highway permits, with wider departmental use to follow. Committee members discussed the tradeoff between convenience and transaction costs paid by applicants; staff noted several neighboring counties use similar approaches and that online services typically increase uptake.
No formal policy changes or budget actions were made; staff sought the committee's awareness of the rollout timetable and maintenance implications for long-term operations.
