The City of Plano has reopened its City Council chambers after a recent renovation that updated audiovisual systems, improved accessibility and expanded online meeting access, hosts of the city's Inside Plano podcast said.
The updates "made it so much easier for everyone whether you're in the room or watching online to follow along," said Steve Stoler, co-host of Inside Plano. The podcast episode described new audio-visual equipment, brighter LED displays, live captioning and improved physical access to the dais.
The podcast said the space will continue to host City Council meetings and Planning and Zoning Commission meetings. "This space is the newly reopened city council chambers," said Sean, co-host of Inside Plano, adding that the chamber had been modernized to be a "welcoming functional environment for everyone." The hosts said much of the technology had not been updated since the chambers were originally built.
Specific changes described on the podcast include a larger LED screen and two wall-mounted LED displays to make materials easier to see for people in the room and watching video, a new audio-visual system intended to improve clarity for in-person and online viewers, and captioning available throughout meetings. Stoler noted the voting display now shows not only how council members vote but also their picture on the boards.
The hosts urged residents to participate in public meetings. Residents may attend in person or join via Zoom, and meetings are streamed on Facebook, YouTube and planotv.org. "Detailed guidelines are available at plano.gov," the hosts said, and speakers were reminded to be respectful, concise and adhere to time limits.
