SBA official urges Dunedin residents to apply for disaster loans during 60-day grace period

A Small Business Administration (SBA) representative addressed the Dunedin City Commission Jan. 9 to remind residents and businesses that disaster loans and assistance remain available during a 60-day grace period even after the primary application deadline has passed.
Rick Moralez, representing the SBA's disaster assistance operations, said the physical-damage deadline has passed but that applicants can still file under a 60-day grace period without needing to justify the late filing. "The main message of today is that they can still apply even though that is late. We have the 60 days grace period and the centers are closed," Moralez said. He added the SBA can assist homeowners, renters, nonprofits and businesses with real estate, inventory and equipment damage claims.
Moralez said the local SBA outreach team has coordinated with FEMA and state and county emergency management and has distributed flyers with an 800-number, website and a QR code for applications; he provided outreach material to the city clerk for public distribution. He also noted other deadlines exist for business and economic-loss programs later in the year.
City staff said they would obtain Moralez's contact information and consider sharing the materials through city channels. No formal city action was taken; the presentation was informational.
