Plano postponed its annual State of the City event to Jan. 28 and set a 6:30 p.m. start time at the Robinson Fine Arts Center, city media relations director Steve Stoler said.
"Due to inclement weather, we moved it to January 28th," Stoler said, announcing the rescheduled event and its location at 1800 Alma Drive.
Stoler also said Monday, Jan. 20 — Martin Luther King Jr. Day — will prompt city facility closures and changes to trash and recycling collection. "Many city facilities are closed for the holiday. Trash and recycling collection is also affected," he said and directed residents to the city’s holiday hours webpage for details.
The city noted two MLK-related events: Plano Police Chief Ed Drain will serve as grand marshal for the annual Collin County MLK parade, which Stoler said begins at 10 a.m. and will route through downtown Plano and the Douglas community. Plano Independent School District will hold the 38th annual MLK Diversity Celebration featuring student performances and leadership recognition at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Robinson Fine Arts Center, Stoler said.
The announcement did not include detailed traffic-control plans, specific trash-collection schedules or safety arrangements for the parade; those items were not specified in the news segment. The city encouraged residents to consult plano.gov and the holiday hours page for up-to-date closures and service information.
