"When we make decisions whether we have school or whether we don't have school, look at lot of different factors. Obviously, the last couple of days, we've been significantly hindered by the roads that we have to deal with. And, obviously, at this time of year, at any time of the year, our number 1 priority for our students is their safety and getting them here to school safely," the staff member said.
The staff member said the district also weighs instructional benefit before declaring a closure or remote day. "We also wanna make sure that they're getting something out of that time as well. ... We just don't wanna count a day. We wanna make sure that we can produce a good day for them to have and a safe day for them to have here at school and provide them the utmost learning as possible," the staff member said.
The remarks praised school personnel who cleared facilities. "I can't say enough about our staff here. ... from a standpoint of our facilities and our operations staff, they've been tremendous coming in, working extra hours, going above and beyond to make sure that our buildings, our parking lots, our sidewalks are taken care of and are in the best shape possible when the kids do return," the staff member said.
The speaker also noted a community perspective: "these kids are having the opportunity to get out and enjoy the weather, enjoy some of the snow ... these memories last as well, and these are things they can look at and look back on fondly as well." The staff member closed by saying, "So I'm happy that kids are getting to enjoy it. We want them back because we miss them, but at the same time, we want everybody to be safe."
