Studio Nelson Gonzales partnered with the city for the installation. The artist, Nelson Gonzales, is originally from Venezuela and has been based in Aruba since 2003, according to remarks at the event. Organizers described the Migrante Monument as a tribute to the strength, determination and contributions of immigrant communities that have helped shape Doral over the past two decades.
City representatives said the city acquired the work after an open competitive call for art in 2022. The monument is cast in bronze and was presented to the public during the ceremony at Doral Legacy Park; attendees were invited to view the installation up close.
