LaSalle County property committee hears courthouse, jail and roof projects; approves minutes and bills

“Kurt Rimley, I’m with BCA Architects here in Ottawa,” Kurt Rimley said as he described planned work and bids for 2025, including a project to replace window flashing across county buildings, a trial window replacement and cosmetic courthouse courtroom upgrades.
County facilities staff reported several projects nearing completion. Staff said the county has replaced many entrance glass panels in phases and is waiting for nine replacement panels ordered in the wrong size; roofing and skylight replacements on the jail and a training room remain about 95% complete, with some lightning-protection and detail work deferred until weather allows.
Facilities staff described an electrical main upgrade nearly finished and said new branch panels and added receptacles are being installed to give offices more usable power. A raised floor for the IT department has materials on-site and will be installed once temporary office space is cleared.
The committee was shown progress photos of a new security fence and gates around the jail and a residential facility (referred to in the meeting as “D Home”). Staff said concrete footings and poles are in place, gate motors had been delivered and cameras are installed; final payment to the contractor was being held until the county confirmed the gates and motors operate as intended.
Facilities staff also reported masonry, ductwork and insulation upgrades in the county building basement, LED lighting replacements, and a near-complete air-handling unit replacement project pending final balancing and reports from contractors.
The committee discussed scheduling facility tours so new members can see mechanical penthouses, roofs and recent work. Kurt Rimley offered to join and show the group the conditions; staff warned some rooftop or mechanical areas are weather- or safety-dependent.
