Supervisors flag new Cal Fire local-responsibility maps and limited beverage redemption sites; preview several county meetings

They're just as concerning as the state responsibility area maps,” Supervisor Sabatier said, noting the maps could affect insurance coverage inside cities as well as in unincorporated areas.
Why it matters: local-responsibility maps determine which areas are designated under local fire agencies’ responsibility and can influence wildfire insurance underwriting and premiums. Sabatier said the LRA maps “match everything else that's been going out in the unincorporated,” underscoring the potential for residents inside city limits to face new consequences tied to hazard mapping.
Also on the calendar, Sabatier said the county has been pursuing a pilot program to expand beverage redemption sites and flagged a scarcity of local options. “The fact that there are very few in Lake County. If it wasn't for tribal efforts, we'd have none,” she said, and added that long waits at existing locations have been a recurring problem.
Other items supervisors mentioned during the calendars segment included scheduled meetings and events relevant to county services and homeless response: a Continuum of Care pick committee meeting and general board meeting, a community health needs assessment data meeting, point-in-time count volunteer training and planning (a supervisor said the point-in-time count is set for Jan. 23), Fire Safe Council and Firewise Council preparatory meetings, and a pick count volunteer training scheduled Friday at 2 p.m.
Vice Chair Rasmussen said she planned to attend a Lake Forest City Council meeting, point-in-time count training and a tribal elders meeting at Circle of the Native Minds in Lakeport. Supervisor Pysco noted a full-day “prepared disengagement action resilience” meeting with the Resource Conservation District and Fire Safe Council on Friday.
Supervisors also previewed several regional engagements: a Regional Council of Rural Counties (RCRC) meeting in Sacramento where the county will participate in related committees and a Golden State finance authority meeting. One supervisor said they will attend a memorial on the 11th for Philip Dean Adamson.
No formal actions, votes or assignments were announced during the calendars segment. Several speakers said they would follow up with colleagues or staff after the listed meetings to report back.
The board’s calendar items indicate the LRA map presentation and beverage redemption pilot are likely near-term items for staff follow-up; supervisors asked staff and one another to coordinate briefings after the external meetings.
