The Hickory City Council on Jan. 7 approved the voluntary contiguous annexation of 5.789 acres located at 2056 Snow Creek Road NE, following a presentation by the city planning director and no public testimony for or against.
Planning Director Bridal Frazier told the council the property, currently containing a single-family home, is within Hickory's extraterritorial jurisdiction and the owner intends a minor subdivision and lot-line adjustment to create a second lot and build an additional residence. Frazier said the petition complies with applicable state annexation statutes and that department heads believe adequate public services are available and would not fall below acceptable levels if the property is annexed.
The council opened the public hearing and, after allowing the advertised opportunity for opposition and support, heard no speakers. A council member moved to approve the annexation, a second was given, and the motion carried by unanimous voice vote.
The annexation brings the parcel into the city’s zoning framework (staff noted adjacent county and city residential zoning designations) and clears the way for the owner’s planned subdivision and construction, subject to any required permits and approvals under city rules.
