The Waukegan Planning and Zoning Commission on Jan. 9 recommended approval of a city request to rezone 701 Belvidere Road from B2 (Community Shopping) to B3 (General Commercial).
Assistant planner Tyler Williams presented the map amendment as one in a series of corrections following adoption of the Unified Development Ordinance. Williams said the rezoning will bring the property into conformance with the UDO and make certain auto‑related uses allowed under current rules. He described the change as a housekeeping item similar to others considered by the commission in recent months.
No members of the public spoke in opposition; staff said the rezoning should not change the legal status of neighbors' ability to file complaints or otherwise seek enforcement where appropriate. The commission made a finding that the amendment complies with section 4.07 C2B of the UDO and recommended approval. The recorded roll call vote was unanimous.
Next steps: The recommendation will be forwarded to the Community Development Committee and then to city council for final approval; staff noted the joint community development/city council hearing is scheduled for Jan. 21.
