Seward wellness center nears finish; memberships starting to come in

City staff gave the council an update on the Seward Wellness Center construction and membership sales, reporting progress in locker rooms, gym flooring work and equipment delivery timelines.
Joel reported that most recent work has focused on locker rooms, including tile, paint and new flooring; locker installation was expected within two weeks. Contractors H2I were scheduled to return to sand, seal and finish the gym floor and track, a process expected to take three to four weeks. Pool equipment installation in the mechanical room was underway and anticipated to take about four weeks.
On membership sales, staff closed an early-bird promotion and reported 183 total sign-ups across categories: 31 family memberships (22 yearly, 9 monthly), 24 couple memberships (15 yearly, 9 monthly), 19 individual memberships (split between yearly and monthly), and 1 single-parent monthly family. Staff said additional equipment delivery and some hallway flooring remain outstanding and that the exterior entry door has been replaced, which should improve heating efficiency.
