Student services subcommittee works with CPAC; virtual IEP workshop set for this week

The School Committee's student services subcommittee reported outreach with the Community Parent Advisory Council (CPAC) to improve communication about programs and resources for students with disabilities.
"We invited Anne Herzog from CPAC to come to our meeting to discuss better ways that student services subcommittee and school committee in general can just be better partners and and work with CPAC," said Eileen, the committee member reporting the subcommittee update.
The subcommittee and CPAC discussed increasing visibility of services for students with disabilities and publishing resource communications. The administration and Rosie (student services staff) are preparing newsletters and communications about available supports and resources.
The subcommittee reminded families and staff that CPAC is hosting a virtual "Understanding the IEP: Knowing Your Basic Rights" workshop at 7 p.m. on Thursday (date in meeting packet); the session is open to parents of students on IEPs and to community members considering special‑education services.
The committee also discussed restarting a PTO‑linked role (LAD coordinator) to increase outreach on learning differences; administration staff said they will reach out to principals and PTOs about re‑establishing the role.
