The Sudden Valley Board of Directors approved an updated marina licensing contract and agreed to changes to the association pproach to wet-slip rentals and the wait-list fee.
The rewritten licensing contract removes provisions that previously required association staff to board or move private vessels and replaces them with a requirement that the association call a licensed contractor when vessel handling or salvage is necessary. The board said the change was made to avoid staff engaging in hazardous marine work and to align the contract with local marina practices. The board also removed outdated boilerplate that had been copied from another harbor and streamlined language on permitted vessel sizes and safety requirements.
On fees, the board voted to reconsider 2025 marina rates to add an explicit wet-slip-only rate and to amend the wait-list policy so that 50% of the $100 wait-list fee is applied toward the member's slip payment when a contract is signed. The change is intended to preserve existing dry-slip capacity for members who need dry storage while letting wet-slip-only customers retain a pathway to a slip without forcing them to take dry storage when they do not need it.
Board members discussed slip configuration and the practical problem that some slips are physically tight even if a slip's nominal length is adequate. Directors asked staff to produce a clear wait-list application and to add a short explanatory note to the fee schedule stating that a wait-list credit applies only when the offered slip is "appropriate for the size and configuration of the member's vessel"; if the offered slip is not appropriate the member keeps their place on the list and the fee is not forfeited. The board directed staff to implement a single, simple wait-list form that requires vessel length, beam and registration (VIN/registration number) so staff can determine suitability when a slip is offered.
The board also moved earlier internal deadlines for renewals and offers: the packet and licensing outreach will be moved earlier in the year (the contract letter and marketing timeline shifts mentioned at the meeting moved actions toward January/February rather than March/May) so the recreation department has more time to re-rent slips that members decline. Staff told the board they would publish the new licensing materials and a revised wait-list form once clerk and rec staff finalize the text and layout.
