The Wakefield School Committee on Jan. 7 voted to approve the 2025–26 district calendar after staff and family input.
The administration said it had consulted administrative groups, Wakefield Education Association (WEA) leadership and community stakeholders before proposing the calendar. The district received feedback on two major changes introduced this year: holding professional development (PD) on Fridays rather than Wednesdays, and shifting some conferences later in the year.
"Bridal overwhelmingly, people are happy with the Friday PD," the calendar presenter said, noting favorable feedback from staff and some parents. The calendar keeps Friday PD days in place for 2025–26 and schedules two staff days on Aug. 27–28 so students can return the Tuesday after Labor Day.
The proposal splits conferences so that pre‑K through Grade 4 conferences and high‑school conferences occur on different dates; the administration said that arrangement requires extra communication to make clear half‑day signals are not district wide.
A motion to accept the 2025–26 Wakefield School Calendar was made and seconded; the transcript records the motion as approved without objection.
The administration also said it would attach a religious‑holiday listing to the calendar and explore adding school hours (start/ dismissal times) to the public calendar PDF for easier access.
