County staff also reported ongoing budget planning: departments were asked to prepare 7% across‑the‑board budget reduction proposals, and staff projected a general‑fund shortfall of about $15 million for the coming year. County staff said final recommendations will be presented to the board in March and for final action in June.
City updates: City staff reported the city council selected its 2025 mayor and vice mayor and said assignments for council liaison roles will be made at upcoming meetings. Staff also said the council approved a contract for consultant work to begin a multi‑year general plan update. City staff noted the passage of Measure Q in November and said the city expects Measure Q revenues to start appearing in the current fiscal cycle; staff did not provide a precise revenue schedule at the 2x2.
Other notes from the meeting: city and county attendees flagged available state and regional grant opportunities for clean‑fleet and electric vehicle charging infrastructure; the city announced a Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at the Veterans Memorial Theater on Jan. 20; and staff encouraged continued coordination on homeless services and outreach for upcoming agenda items.
