Local waterways group urges state to develop Dunns Creek State Park for camping and boating

Members of the Putnam County Waterways and Trails Committee told the delegation Dunns Creek State Park is underused and urged the state to fund facilities that would allow camping, boat access and basic services.
Sam Carr, co-chair of the committee, said the park comprises "62,100 acres of pristine Florida" but currently lacks campgrounds, docks and showers. "If we could put a campground in there, we would be able to earn PDC funds out of all those camping fees," Carr said, asking the delegation to press Tallahassee to fund the park's development.
Carr said the park appears on management plans dating to 2019 and that full development would cost about $6,700,000 for Florida Park Service improvements. He said locals run 20 volunteer events annually at the park despite limited facilities and that improved amenities would generate revenue and wider public use.
Delegation members did not commit funding during the meeting; speakers provided copies of the park management plan and asked the delegation to "rattle some cages" to secure state investment.
