The Village of Tequesta council on Jan. 9 adopted Resolution 02‑25 authorizing write‑offs for delinquent water-utility accounts with amounts that staff said are two to three years old. Utilities Director Marjorie Craig told council the write-off total is about $19,000 and that the village follows a multi-step collection process — internal notices, phone calls and then referral to a collection agency — before recommending write-offs.
Council members asked for clarification about an additional figure ($21,634) that appeared on meeting charts; Craig said the larger figure represented amounts the utility was unable to collect for some accounts and that the $19,000 number reflected the specific accounts recommended for write-off at this time. Council approved the resolution by unanimous voice vote.
Craig told the council the village recently adopted ordinance changes and collection protocols that staff expect will improve recovery of unpaid accounts going forward. The council made no additional policy changes at the meeting.
