The board convened in closed session under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act provision cited in the meeting to address personnel matters and later certified the closed meeting before voting to approve personnel as presented.
Motion and certification
A motion was made to move into closed session "pursuant to State Code Section 2.2-3712(a)" to review personnel matters. After the closed session the board returned to open session and a member moved to certify compliance with Virginia Code Section 2.2-3712(d); the motion was seconded and certified by roll call.
Personnel and consent agenda
After certification the board voted to approve personnel recommendations as presented in closed session. The board then approved consent-agenda items including minutes for its December 9 regular meeting, the December 16 work session and the December 19 special meeting.
Principals/designees at meetings
The board voted to require that each school be represented at regular board meetings by a principal or an administrative designee. The motion specified an administrator or a principal's designee (for example an assistant principal) should attend so the board can hear school-level perspectives. The board asked that the practice be implemented and that staff notify principals of the expectation.
Adjournment and next meeting
The board adjourned and set the next meeting for January 29 (5:30 PM).
