Retired educator urges stricter enforcement of student code of conduct

Ray Blazer, introduced at the start of the meeting as a retired King George County Schools educator and local resident, used public comment to urge stronger enforcement of the student code of conduct.
"That code must be enforced. Sadly, it is not in so many cases and that is affecting our children's education. The student code of conduct has become a joke and teacher morale is at an all time low," Blazer said. He described teachers being cursed at, students bullying peers and administrators "parent-appeasing" rather than enforcing rules.
Blazer urged the board to require enforcement in every public school, saying: "Our teachers are screaming for enforcement of the rules. Our students are begging for it and our parents are expecting it. Our students deserve the best education that we can provide. We are falling seriously short of that." The superintendent, Dr. Boyd, thanked Blazer and invited follow-up so staff could investigate specific concerns.
Blazer's remarks preceded staff presentations on the strategic plan and safety initiatives; board members and staff later discussed disciplinary approaches, alternatives to suspension and the FLEX program as part of that agenda.
