Issaquah Council honors Council Member Victoria Hunt as she prepares for statehouse service

The Issaquah City Council on Jan. 7 honored Council Member Victoria Hunt on her final council meeting before she takes office as a state representative for the 5th Legislative District.

Council members and the mayor highlighted Hunt’s seven years on the council and credited her with leadership on environmental issues, the city’s land‑use code rewrite and several community acquisitions.

Hunt said she was grateful for the opportunity to serve while raising a young family and reflected on projects she helped advance, including the Bergsma land acquisition, updates to Title 18 (the land‑use code), the city’s climate action planning and the establishment of volunteer advisory boards for environment and equity. “The work of public service is never finished,” Hunt said, adding that the institutional changes she helped put in place would allow the city to continue those efforts.

Council President (unnamed) and Council Member Hall each thanked Hunt for her service. The council presented her with a plaque and plans to photograph the presentation for a piece to place in her new office.

Why it matters: Hunt’s move to the statehouse shifts local leadership and creates a council vacancy; council members said her local experience should inform her work at the state level and noted the city will now begin the process of filling her council seat.

The council’s tributes also called attention to the continuity of projects Hunt helped shepherd, such as Title 18 and the Bergsma acquisition, and to the role of boards and commissions established during her tenure.
