The Parks Board discussed replacement backboards for the North Bay basketball court and reviewed written vendor quotes ranging from about $700 to $1,400 per backboard, delivered.
Jeff Byerly presented the quotes and recommended full-size fiberglass backboards that match existing boards. Byerly said delivered prices for full-size 72-by-42 fiberglass boards were roughly $1,000 to $1,300 each from known vendors; smaller or aluminum alternatives were cheaper, "about 700 delivered to about 1,400, so considerably cheaper if you consider." He recommended fiberglass for durability.
Board members asked whether posts are included; Byerly said the existing posts are already in place and the purchase would be for backboards only. The board also discussed whether to install regulation-size equipment in case the city later hosts organized events; members said the city is not currently sponsoring tournaments and that short-term recreational-size boards would likely be acceptable for current use.
Byerly said he would email the quotes to board members for final consideration and that the Foundation is meeting soon to consider funding. No contract was awarded during the meeting.
