Parks board forms ad hoc to advance ARPA-funded walking path project

The Ocean Shores Parks Board said it will create an ad hoc committee to coordinate the design and volunteer support for a walking path originally requested under ARPA funding.
Kristen Hartman, chair of the Parks Board, told members that “Council approved all of our requests,” and proposed an ad hoc to work with Public Works on the walking path. Hartman named Shelley Johnson, Jeff Byerly and Bill Skorick to the ad hoc group. "So going forward, we'll have you guys working with the city on the walking path," she said.
Board members said volunteers will be used for some work. Hartman and Public Works staff agreed the ad hoc will liaise with staff on specifications, schedules and any needed permits. Board members later noted that drainage work tied to the walking path could help address chronic wetness at the Chinook dog park; the board said ties between the walking-path work and dog-park drainage are under discussion but not finalized.
There were no formal votes recorded at the meeting to authorize specific contracts or design specifications; the action at this session was formation of the ad hoc and direction to coordinate with Public Works.
Next steps: the ad hoc committee will meet with Public Works staff and report back to the full board with a project timeline and volunteer coordination plan.
