The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners voted Jan. 9 to authorize a three-year collective bargaining agreement with AFSCME Local 676 that will take effect Jan. 1, 2025.
County assistant solicitor Maureen Calder presented the contract summary: Local 676 represents roughly 248 employees in county row offices and deputy sheriffs. The new agreement establishes a revised wage scale for 2025, sets the deputy sheriff starting salary at $55,000 per year and provides for annual base wage increases for other union members. The contract term is three years and county staff recommended board approval.
A motion to approve the resolution was moved and seconded in the meeting; commissioners voted in favor by voice vote and the motion passed. The county solicitor, CFO and acting director of human resources recommended entering into the agreement.
Staff said the agreement is intended to keep compensation competitive and retain row-office and deputy sheriff staff. The new starting salary for deputy sheriffs and the wage scale changes were presented as part of the county’s 2025 compensation plan.
