Galaxy Library to host Minnesota Black Authors Expo in February; teen job fair planned for April

Tyler Williams, manager of the Galaxy Library, updated the council Jan. 9 on two upcoming library events for Apple Valley residents.
On Saturday, Feb. 8, the Galaxy Library will host the Minnesota Black Authors Expo at the Western Service Center Atrium. Williams said the Expo has operated in Minneapolis for 10 years and is expanding in 2025 to hold quarterly events across the state. The Apple Valley event will feature about 20 authors across children's, teen and adult categories, plus writing workshops for adults and teens and a children's activity area with author story times.
Williams also announced a teen job fair scheduled for Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. He said the fair will include resume and interviewing workshops, connections to CareerForce, and opportunities for local employers seeking seasonal or other teen workers. Williams told the council the last time the library held this event, about 220 people attended.
Williams invited local employers and community members to participate and provided contact information for organizers. The council thanked Williams for the update.
