Director Katie Warrington said commissioners reviewed pay among comparable cities, including elements such as “salaries, their composition of their form of government. They looked at sales tax revenue, assessed value, population, amongst other statistics provided to them.” She told the commission that “at the conclusion and the consensus of the commissioners, they have recommended to move forward at adopting the city council salary to be $1,000 per month, and the mayor's salary of $10,619.27 per month.”
The recommendation was presented during a public hearing that drew no in-person or online speakers. The commission opened the hearing with a 3-minute public testimony limit, heard the staff recommendation, then closed the hearing and moved to votes. Commissioners voted unanimously in favor of the two salary schedules; the record shows no nays and one absent commissioner.
In addition to the salary actions, the commission approved procedural items on the agenda: a motion to excuse Commissioner Behn from the meeting, approval of minutes from Oct. 23 and Oct. 30, 2024, and an adjournment. Commissioners also recognized Michelle Hampton, noting this was her final meeting as a salary commissioner.
