PDGA-sanctioned disc-golf event seeks Freedom Park permit; application submitted under 30 days before event

City staff told the Sunbury City Parks and Recreation Committee on Jan. 8 that the 34th annual Columbus Ice Vault, a PDGA (Professional Disc Golf Association) sanctioned event, is proposed for Freedom Park on Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The organizer reported the event includes a food drive and that fees would cover PDGA sanctioning and club supplies.
Staff said the applicants have run similar events in Sunbury without prior problems and that the application has been reviewed by fire, police and services personnel with no red flags reported. Because the permit application arrived fewer than 30 days before the event, staff cautioned they could not promise the park closure to the public at this time and could not guarantee permit approval.
The organizer told staff the club will clean up the park after the event. Staff also noted an administrative discrepancy in the printed application date (a drafting date on the form) and said they will correct the event date on the application record. Committee members asked whether council approval is needed; staff did not record a final determination at the Jan. 8 meeting.
No committee vote on the permit was recorded at the Jan. 8 meeting; staff advised the club to proceed with the application and noted the standard public-safety reviews were completed without flagged issues.
