The Camarillo City Council on Jan. 8 unanimously extended the city's local emergency declaration stemming from the mountain fire and asked staff to return with options for reducing or waiving city permit and review fees to help affected property owners.
City staff told the council the city manager originally proclaimed a local emergency on Nov. 7, 2024 and that the City Council ratified the proclamation on Nov. 13, 2024 under a resolution. Staff said the state Government Code requires the council to review the need to continue a local emergency at least every 60 days.
The extension matters because the proclamation allows the city to expedite response and recovery efforts, access state and federal resources and use other appropriate disaster relief programs for property owners and the city. Staff described ongoing recovery work including on-site contacts with property owners, a consolidated debris removal program administered by Ventura County and a city debris removal rebate program approved Nov. 20, 2024.
