District marks Ruby Bridges Day and January observances in elementary schools

The district listed international and cultural dates from December and early January (World AIDS Day, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and others) and then focused on Ruby Bridges Day (Nov. 14), an observance that honors the civil-rights activist and encourages classroom activities that connect local students to broader civic history.
Staff described a limited-time set of activities coordinated with the district’s B Alliance and principals: Bushkill Elementary student council organized a short walk and signage, Lehman Intermediate created posters and a school broadcast segment, and teachers used foundation-supplied choice boards, read-alouds and a short film option. The presentation included classroom photos and a short video clip of the Bushkill walk.
Ending: Staff said the district submitted its participation to the Ruby Bridges Foundation and will consider additional planning time next year to expand participation across more schools.
